Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu Airport (1,400m) and transfer to the hotel for check-in and rest.
Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, the vibrant capital of Nepal, our friendly team from Himalayan Gateway Trek will be there to greet you with a warm welcome and take you to your hotel.
Once you arrive, you’ll receive a warm welcome, with staff presenting you with traditional flower garlands. They will assist you with the check-in process and make sure you’re comfortable. Afterward, you can relax and get ready for your adventure the next day. In the evening, walk around Thamel and have dinner whenever you like.

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing and trekking Prepare day.
Today, you’ll explore the highlights of Kathmandu with visits to UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Swayambhunath Stupa, Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, and Durbar Square. These cultural landmarks will give you a deeper insight into Nepal’s rich history and religious heritage.
After the sightseeing tour, you’ll return to your hotel for trekking preparations, including receiving your trekking gear, discussing the trek details with your guide, and ensuring all necessary permits are in order. This day helps you get ready for the adventure ahead while immersing you in Nepal’s vibrant culture.
Day 03 : Kathmandu (1400m) to Tumlingtar flight to drive Chichila(1980m).
Today, you’ll fly from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar (35–45 minutes) and then drive to Chichila (1,980m). The scenic flight offers stunning views of the Himalayas, and the drive through terraced fields and villages gives you a glimpse of rural Nepal. Once in Chichila, you’ll settle in for the night, resting and preparing for the trek ahead.
Day 04 : Trek from Chichila (1980m) To Num (1040m).
Today’s trek takes you from Chichila (1,980m) to Num (1,040m), descending through lush forests and terraced fields. The trail offers beautiful views of the surrounding valleys and mountains as you make your way down.
The descent can be challenging, but it’s a perfect opportunity to acclimatize while enjoying the serene beauty of the region. You’ll arrive in Num, a small village where you’ll rest for the night before continuing the journey.
Day 05 : Trek from Num ( 1040m) to Seduwa (1500m).
On Day 5, you’ll trek from Num (1,040m) to Seduwa (1,500m). After crossing the river, the trail leads to a steep ascent, bringing you into the Makalu Barun National Park. Here, your permits will be checked before continuing onward to your overnight teahouse.
The trail ascends through rhododendron and pine forests, offering beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. As you reach Seduwa, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and prepare for the next stage of your journey.
Day 06 :Trek from Seduwa (1500m) To Tashi Gaon (2100m).
On Day 6, you’ll trek from Seduwa (1,500m) to Tashi Gaon (2,100m). It’s a beautiful hike through rhododendron forests and cultivated farmlands, with scenic views of the lush landscape. The trail crosses another river, this time via a suspension bridge.
Along the way, you’ll pass through two villages, Hindrungma and Rupisa, where you’ll experience local village life before reaching Tashi Gaon, a peaceful Sherpa settlement nestled in the mountains. Once there, you’ll rest for the night and enjoy the serene surroundings.
Day 07 : Trek from Tashi Gaon (2100m) To Khongma Danda(3500m).
On Day 7, you’ll trek from Tashi Gaon (2,100m) to Khongma Danda (3,500m). This is a steeper ascent, taking you through alpine forests and higher altitudes. The trail offers stunning views of the surrounding valleys and peaks. As you climb higher, the landscape transitions to more barren terrain with spectacular mountain views.
Khongma Danda is a ridge offering panoramic vistas of the Makalu region, where you’ll spend the night to acclimatize and prepare for the upcoming days.
Day 08 : Acclimatization Day at Khongma Dada(3500m).
Day 8 is an acclimatization day at Khongma Danda (3,500m) to help your body adjust to the higher altitude. You can take short hikes around the area, exploring the surrounding ridges for stunning views of the Makalu and Baruntse peaks.
This day is essential to prevent altitude sickness and give you time to rest, allowing you to be better prepared for the tougher sections of the trek ahead. Enjoy the serene atmosphere and spectacular mountain vistas as you relax and acclimatize.
Day 09 : Trek From Khongma Danda ( 3500m) to Dobato( 3068m).
On Day 9, you’ll trek from Khongma Danda (3,500m) to Dobato (3,068m). Today, you’ll cross two mountain passes, which can be challenging but rewarding. The first pass is Ghungru La Pass (4,055m), reached after walking along a ridge, offering stunning views of the surrounding peaks. Then, you’ll continue to Keke La Pass (4,170m), where you’ll enjoy panoramic views before descending to the village of Dobato, nestled in a serene valley. While the passes aren’t particularly high, they still offer breathtaking vistas of the Makalu region, making the hike a memorable experience.
Day 10 :Trek from Dobato( 3068m) to Yangla Kharka (3557m).
On Day 10, you’ll trek from Dobato (3,068m) to Yangla Kharka (3,557m). The trail climbs steadily through alpine meadows and forests, offering beautiful views of the surrounding peaks. As you ascend, the landscape becomes more rugged, and you’ll notice the increasing elevation as you approach Yangla Kharka. This peaceful spot offers an excellent place to rest and enjoy the surrounding nature, preparing you for the next part of the journey.
Day 11 : Trek from Yangla Kharka (3557m) to Langmale Kharka (4410m).
On Day 11, you’ll trek from Yangla Kharka (3,557m) to Langmale Kharka (4,410m), ascending nearly 1,000 meters (3,280.8 ft). Due to the steep ascent, it’s important to take your time, go slowly, and take frequent breaks. You may begin to feel slight changes in your body, which is natural at higher elevations, but be mindful of any more serious symptoms of altitude sickness.
The trail is steep as you pass through alpine meadows, rhododendron forests, and rugged terrain, and you’ll cross pastures where herds of yaks may be grazing. Upon reaching Langmale Kharka, a summer pasture for yak herds, you’ll be treated to stunning views of Peak 3, Peak 4, Peak 5, Chamlang, and Hongku Chuli, making this a scenic highlight of the trek.
Day 12 :Trek from Langmale Kharka (4410m) to Makalu Base Camp (4870m).
On Day 12, you’ll trek from Langmale Kharka (4,410m) to Makalu Base Camp (4,870m). This is a challenging hike as you cross moraine deposits, rocky land, and potential snow and ice patches. The trail takes you through the Barun Glacier, with snowy mountains surrounding you. Travel slowly and carefully over loose rocks and slippery trails, and in some parts, crampons may be necessary.
After negotiating switchback trails, you’ll reach a plateau, and there it is—Makalu, the 5th highest mountain in the world at 8,485m (27,838ft). This towering peak, part of the Mahalangur Himalayas, sits approximately 19 km southeast of Mount Everest and straddles the Nepal/China border. The views from base camp are awe-inspiring, and you’ll be surrounded by glaciers and towering peaks, a true highlight of the trek.
Day 13 : Explore Makalu Base Camp (4870m).
Day 13 is an exploration day at Makalu Base Camp (4,870m). This day is dedicated to soaking in the breathtaking surroundings and enjoying the serene beauty of the Makalu region. You can take short hikes around base camp, explore the Barun Glacier, and enjoy panoramic views of Makalu and other surrounding peaks.
In addition to Makalu, you’ll have stunning views of Chamlang (7,319m), Lhotse (8,516m), and the Kangshung Face of Everest.
Day 14 : Trek from Makalu Base Camp (4870m) to Yangla Kharka (3557).
On Day 14, you’ll trek back from Makalu Base Camp (4,870m) to Yangla Kharka (3,557m). The trail descends through rocky terrain, crossing alpine meadows and pastures, with incredible views of the surrounding peaks. As you lower in altitude, the air becomes more breathable, making the descent easier.
You’ll retrace part of the route, passing through the serene landscapes, and eventually reach Yangla Kharka, a peaceful stop to rest after the challenging journey to base camp.
Day 15 : Trek from Yangla Kharka (3557) to Dobato (3068m).
On Day 15, you’ll trek from Yangla Kharka (3,557m) to Dobato (3,068m). The descent today takes you through alpine meadows and dense forests, offering stunning views as you lose elevation.
As you pass through quiet landscapes, you’ll enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings. Reaching Dobato, a peaceful spot nestled in a valley, you’ll rest for the night and prepare for the journey ahead
Day 16 : Trek from Dobato (3068m) to Khongma Danda ( 3500m).
On Day 16, you’ll trek from Dobato (3,068m) to Khongma Danda (3,500m). The trail ascends gradually through alpine terrain, passing through forests and meadows, offering beautiful views of the surrounding peaks. Along the way, you will cross two passes: Ghungru La Pass at 4,055m (13,303.8 ft) and Keke La Pass at 4,170m (13,681 ft). After spending time at higher altitudes, you may find these passes easier to cross than on the inward journey.
As you reach Khongma Danda, a ridge top with stunning panoramic views, you’ll be able to rest and enjoy the serene environment, reflecting on the journey and preparing for the final leg of the trek.
Day 17 : Trek from Khongma Danda (3500m) to Tashi Gaon (2100m).
On Day 17, you’ll trek from Khongma Danda (3,500m) to Tashi Gaon (2,100m). The descent today significantly lowers your elevation, making breathing easier and your walking lighter. As you hike through familiar rhododendron forests and grazing pastures, you’ll still enjoy stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
Upon reaching Tashi Gaon, a peaceful village, you’ll notice that the teahouses here offer better facilities than others along the route, with charging options and hot showers available, making for a comfortable rest stop.
Day 18 : Trek from Tashi Gaon (2100m) to Seduwa (1500m).
On Day 18, you’ll trek from Tashi Gaon (2,100m) to Seduwa (1,500m). This is a shorter day on the trail, so take your time over breakfast. As you continue on your homeward journey, you’ll pass through the villages of Hindrungma and Rupisa again.
The trail takes you through areas with cultivated farmland, as the lower altitude supports a variety of crops. You’ll enjoy the peaceful rural landscapes as you make your way to Seduwa, a tranquil village to rest for the night.
Day 19 : Trek from Seduwa (1500m) to Num(1040m).
On Day 19, you’ll trek from Seduwa (1,500m) to Num (1,040m). This is the final hiking day of the trek. The trail descends through lush landscapes and traditional villages, gradually lowering in elevation. As you cross rivers and pass through terraced fields, you’ll notice the changing scenery.
With a touch of sadness, you’ll cross the original first suspension bridge over the Arun River, marking the end of your trek. Reaching Num, a small village, you’ll rest here before your journey back to the starting point.
Day 20 :Trek from Num (1040m) to Chichila (1980m) to Tumlingtar (Drive)
Today, you’ll take a local jeep to Chichila, and from there, you’ll likely change jeeps for the journey to Tumlingtar. You’ll overnight in Tumlingtar, preparing for your morning flight back to Kathmandu.
Day 21 : Flight from Tumlingtar To Kathmandu (Flight)
On Day 21, you’ll take a flight from Tumlingtar back to Kathmandu. This marks the end of your incredible Makalu Base Camp Trek. As you soar over the stunning landscapes of the Himalayas, you’ll have time to reflect on the unforgettable adventure you’ve just completed.
Day 22: Departure from Kathmandu.
On the final day of your journey, you will be transferred to Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some free time to do some last-minute shopping or explore the city.
As you leave Nepal, you’ll take with you unforgettable memories of your incredible trek through the Makalu Base Camp Trek.

Transportation
Our guided trek package includes all necessary ground and air transportation. You’ll begin with a domestic flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar, followed by a scenic drive to Num, the starting point of the trek. After the trek, the return journey follows the same route back to Kathmandu, ensuring a smooth and comfortable travel experience.
Typical Daily Schedule
Each day begins with a warm breakfast around 6:30–7:00 AM, followed by trekking for about 5 to 7 hours, depending on the distance and altitude. You’ll walk through diverse terrains—forests, ridgelines, high passes, and glacial valleys—stopping at teahouses or lunch spots for rest and meals. Evenings are spent in mountain lodges or camps, where you can relax, share stories with fellow trekkers, and prepare for the next day.
Accommodation & Meals
During the trek, accommodation will be in local teahouses or basic mountain lodges, where available. In more remote areas, camping may be necessary, and all logistics will be arranged by our support crew. Rooms are simple but cozy, often with shared facilities. The package includes three meals per day—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—prepared with local ingredients, providing a mix of Nepali and international dishes to keep you energized throughout the trek.
