The trek typically begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,860 meters), a thrilling experience with views of the Himalayan peaks. From Lukla, you trek through traditional Sherpa villages like Phakding, Namche Bazaar, and Dole, each offering incredible cultural experiences. The main highlight of the trek is the Gokyo Lakes, a series of six stunning glacial lakes nestled in the Gokyo Valley. Gokyo Lake Trekking Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu Airport (1,400m ) and transfer to the hotel for check-in and rest.
Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, the vibrant capital of Nepal, our friendly team from Himalayan Gateway Trek will be there to greet you with a warm welcome and take you to your hotel.
Once you arrive, you’ll receive a warm welcome, with staff presenting you with traditional flower garlands. They will assist you with the check-in process and make sure you’re comfortable. Afterward, you can relax and get ready for your adventure the next day. In the evening, walk around Thamel and have dinner whenever you like.

Day 02: Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla ( 2,680 meters) and trek to Phakding Village (2,640 meters).
The Gokyo Lake Trek begins with a thrilling scenic flight to Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla, located in the Solukhumbu District. The flight takes approximately 30 minutes, and on a clear day, you’ll be treated to spectacular views of Mount Everest and the surrounding peaks of the Khumbu Himalaya.
Upon arrival in Lukla, we will obtain the Khumbu entrance permit and begin our trek to Phakding. The trek takes around 3 to 4 hours, starting with a gentle downhill path followed by a short climb. Along the way, you’ll pass through traditional Sherpa villages, offering glimpses of stunning mountain scenery. After a pleasant day of walking, we’ll arrive in Phakding, where we’ll spend the night near the glacier-fed Dudh Koshi River, surrounded by the tranquility of the mountains.
Day 03: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440m). 5-6 Hours trek
Today, we will embark on a challenging yet rewarding trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m). The journey will take around 5 to 6 hours, offering a mix of gentle ascents and descents, with several crossings over suspension bridges that span the Dudh Koshi River. As we climb, we will be surrounded by lush forests and catch our first glimpses of the towering peaks of the Khumbu region. The trail also passes through the Monjo village, where you will enter the Sagarmatha National Park.
After crossing a few more bridges, the trail becomes steeper as you approach Namche Bazaar, the gateway to the Everest region. We will relish the breathtaking views of Kusum Peak, Kwangde Peak, Lhotse, Kangaru Peak, Tawache, and the highest mountain, Everest. We will spend our night at Namche Bazaar.
Day 04: Rest and Acclimatization at Namche Bazaar (3,440m)
Today is dedicated to acclimatization at Namche Bazaar. Spending a day here helps your body adjust to the altitude and ensures a safer and more enjoyable trek ahead. You can take a short hike to the Syangboche viewpoint for a panoramic view of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Kang Tega, and Ama Dablam.
Alternatively, you can explore the vibrant village, visit the Sherpa Museum, or stroll around the local markets. Namche Bazaar is the largest settlement in the Everest region, offering modern amenities and an excellent opportunity to experience Sherpa culture. Enjoy the day to relax, take in the stunning surroundings, and prepare for the journey ahead.
Day 05 Trek from Namche Bazaar to Dole (4,110 m). 6-7 Hours
After leaving Namche Bazaar, we embark on our trek towards Dole. The journey begins with a gradual and scenic trail, offering stunning views as we approach Shanasa village. From here, the path diverges from the main route to Everest Base Camp, taking us into quieter areas toward Gokyo Lake. We continue the ascent to Mong, located at 3,973 meters, where we are rewarded with panoramic views before descending to the Dudh Kosi River at Phortse Thanghka for a lunch break.
As we pass yak pastures, we make our way through Tongba and Gyele villages before reaching Dole, where we can enjoy amazing views of Khumbila and Tawache (6,542 meters). Along the way, we are treated to clear views of some of the most famous peaks in the region, including Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. The path weaves through lush vegetation, with the possibility of spotting wildlife such as musk deer and the Himalayan thar.Â
After descending to Kayangjuma, we arrive at the junction where the Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Valley trails meet. A climb to Mong La Pass offers more stunning views, lush forests, and waterfalls before we reach the peaceful village of Dole, where we will spend the night.
Day 06 Trek from Dole to Machhermo (4470m). 6-7 Hours
In the morning, we begin our trek from Dole, climbing steadily along the beautiful valley. As we ascend, the lush rhododendron forests give way to smaller juniper bushes, marking our gradual gain in altitude. The trail continues on a level path for about an hour, leading us to Lhabarma Kharka and Luza at an elevation of 4,390 meters. From here, we skirt around a ridge and make a descent towards the village of Machherm.
Upon arrival at Machhermo, we will stop for lunch and take a well-deserved break. Afterward, you have the option to either relax or take a short afternoon walk to explore the beautiful valley surrounding the village.
This evening, enjoy the serene atmosphere of Machhermo, where we will spend the night, resting and acclimatizing before continuing on our adventure.
Day 07: Trek from Machhermo to Gokyo (4790m). 4 Hours
Today, we will reach the spectacular Gokyo Valley, the main highlight of our journey. The trek begins with a scenic walk along the Dudh Koshi River, passing by charming monasteries and chortens, with magnificent views of the surrounding Khumbu Himalayas. As we continue, we’ll reach the first of the Gokyo Lakes, and then ascend the Ngozumpa Glacier moraines to visit the second lake. From there, the trail leads us to the third lake, which is tucked away behind the historic Sherpa village of Gokyo.
Before reaching the valley, we will pass through Longpongo, Dudh Pokhari, and Raboche Tscho. Upon arriving in the village of Gokyo, we will stay the night. After passing the first and second lakes, we’ll continue toward the third lake, Dudh Pokhari (or Gokyo Lake), a peaceful spot with fantastic views. As we trek through this area, we’ll cross an iron bridge and walk over the Ngozumpa Glaciers before finally reaching Gokyo Valley.
Upon arrival, we will have time to relax, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, and prepare for the next day’s exploration of the lakes and Gokyo Ri.
Day 08 : Hike to Gokyo Ri (5360 m) and trek back to Machhermo.
Today, we will begin the day with an early morning hike to Gokyo Ri (5,360 meters), a viewpoint that offers one of the best panoramic views of the Himalayas. From the summit, we’ll be treated to stunning views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and the entire Gokyo Valley below, including the breathtaking Gokyo Lakes.
After soaking in the magnificent scenery, we will descend back to Machhermo. The return trek will take us through the same beautiful landscape we passed earlier, with a chance to stop for photos and admire the spectacular views once again. Upon arriving in Machhermo, we’ll settle in for an overnight stay, completing a fulfilling day of trekking.
Day 09: Trek back to Namche Bazar (3438 m).
Today We will be following the same route back to Namche Bazaar from Machhermo on the Everest Gokyo Lake Trek, but there’s still a long day of hiking ahead. As we descend from Machhermo, we will cross the Dudh Koshi River, passing through dense forests of pine and fir trees, creating a serene and peaceful atmosphere. Along the way, we’ll stop for lunch in Dole, where we can refuel before continuing the journey.
After lunch, we will bypass Khumjung and continue on our path to Namche Bazaar, which will take about six or seven hours in total. Upon arrival in Namche, we’ll have the rest of the day to explore this vibrant, historic Sherpa town, known for its bustling market and beautiful views of the surrounding peaks.
Namche Bazaar is a great place to pick up souvenirs, such as locally crafted items and trekking gear, or simply enjoy the lively atmosphere of this mountain hub. Once we arrive at Namche, we will rest and enjoy a well-deserved overnight stay.
Day 10 : Trek from Namche Bazar to Lukla (2,840m).
Today, we will begin our trek from Namche Bazaar back to Lukla, covering a distance of about 6 to 7 hours. The trail descends through beautiful pine forests, crossing several suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River. As we make our way down, we’ll pass through the villages of Monjo and Phakding, where we can take short breaks along the way.
Once we reach Lukla, we will have time to rest and celebrate the completion of our trekking adventure. Lukla is a lively town with plenty of lodges, cafes, and shops, where we can enjoy a well-deserved meal and share our experiences with fellow trekkers. Today our trek finally comes to an end. We will spend our night at Lukla.
Day 11: Fly back to Kathmandu(1,400m) and Transfer to hotel.
On this day, we will take a scenic early morning flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu. The 30-minute flight offers stunning aerial views of the Himalayas, including peaks like Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu, providing a perfect end to our trekking journey.
Once we arrive at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport, we will be transferred to our hotel for some well-deserved rest. The rest of the day will be free for relaxation or personal exploration of Kathmandu, allowing you to visit nearby markets, shops, or cafes, and reflect on the incredible adventure you’ve just experienced.
Day 12 :Departure from Kathmandu.
On the final day of your journey, you will be transferred to Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some free time to do some last-minute shopping or explore the city.
As you leave Nepal, you’ll take with you unforgettable memories of your incredible trek through the Gokyo Lake Trekking.
