Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, the vibrant capital of Nepal, our friendly team from Himalayan Gateway Trek will be there to greet you with a warm welcome and take you to your hotel.

Once you arrive, you’ll receive a warm welcome, with staff presenting you with traditional flower garlands. They will assist you with the check-in process and make sure you’re comfortable. Afterward, you can relax and get ready for your adventure the next day. In the evening, walk around Thamel and have dinner whenever you like.

The journey takes approximately 6-7 hours, passing through picturesque landscapes, rolling hills, rivers, and charming countryside villages. Along the way, you can enjoy stunning views of the Trishuli River and lush green valleys. Upon arrival in Pokhara, you will have time to explore the beautiful lakeside area, relax by Phewa Lake, or enjoy the city’s vibrant atmosphere before preparing for the trek ahead.

On this day, we will take a 1.5-hour drive from Pokhara (822m/2,697ft) to Nayapul (1,070m/3,510ft), the starting point of your trek. From Nayapul, we will begin our hike through beautiful villages and terraced fields, following the Bhurungdi Khola (river). After a few hours of trekking, we will reach Tikhedhunga (1,540m/5,052ft), a small yet charming village surrounded by lush greenery. Here, we can rest and enjoy the peaceful mountain atmosphere before continuing your adventure.

The journey begins with a steep ascent up Ulleri (2,050m/6,725ft), a famous section with 3,000 stone steps leading to the village. As we climb higher, we will pass through dense rhododendron forests, especially vibrant in spring, along with oak and bamboo trees. Along the way, we can enjoy stunning views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain). After approximately 6-7 hours of trekking, we will reach Ghorepani, a picturesque village offering breathtaking mountain scenery and a well-deserved rest before the sunrise hike to Poon Hill the next morning.

Today we will start the day with an early morning hike to Poon Hill (3,210m/10,531ft), a renowned viewpoint offering panoramic sunrise views over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. As the sun rises, we will watch the peaks of Annapurna I (8,091m), Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Machhapuchhre (6,993m), and Hiunchuli (6,441m) glow in golden hues, creating a breathtaking spectacle.

After soaking in the views, we will return to Ghorepani (2,850m/9,350ft) for breakfast before continuing our trek to Tadapani (2,630m/8,629ft). The trail takes us through dense rhododendron forests, cascading streams, and occasional wildlife sightings. After 5-6 hours of trekking, we will reach Tadapani, a small settlement with incredible close-up views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre, where we will rest for the night.

Today we take a relatively short and pleasant descent from Tadapani (2,630m/8,629ft) to Ghandruk (1,940m/6,364ft), taking approximately 3-4 hours. The trail winds through lush rhododendron and oak forests, offering occasional glimpses of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain).

As we approach Ghandruk, one of the largest Gurung villages in the region, we will be welcomed by its traditional stone houses, rich culture, and warm hospitality. Ghandruk also offers a Gurung Museum, where you can learn about the local customs and traditions. This picturesque village provides a final stunning view of the Annapurna range, making it a perfect place to relax before the final leg of your trek.

The trail follows a gentle downhill path through terraced fields, small villages, and forests, offering one last chance to enjoy the serene Himalayan landscapes.

Upon reaching Nayapul, we will take a 1.5-hour drive back to Pokhara (822m/2,697ft). Once in Pokhara, you can unwind by Phewa Lake, explore the vibrant lakeside area, or simply relax after completing this incredible trek.

Day 9: Final Departure

On the final day of your journey, you will be transferred to Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some free time to do some last-minute shopping or explore the city.

Best Seasons

The best times for the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). Typical Day

A typical day on the trek begins with breakfast at 7:00 AM, followed by 4–6 hours of trekking, with a break for lunch at a teahouse along the way. Trekkers usually reach their destination in the afternoon, allowing time for relaxation, acclimatization, or village exploration, before ending the day with dinner and preparation for the next trek.

Flight Delays & Transportation

No flights are needed for this trek; the journey starts with a 1.5–2 hour drive from Pokhara to Nayapul. Road conditions can vary, especially during the monsoon, so it’s wise to have some flexibility in your schedule.

Visa

A Nepal visa can be obtained on arrival at Kathmandu Airport, costing $30 for 15 days and $50 for 30 days. Bring passport-sized photos and USD cash for a smooth process.

Travel Insurance

Although the trek does not reach extreme altitudes, travel insurance is recommended, especially one that covers trekking activities, minor injuries, and medical emergencies.

Currency Exchange

Currency exchange is available in Kathmandu and Pokhara, but there are no ATMs along the trekking route. It’s best to carry enough Nepali rupees for personal expenses, as teahouses and local shops only accept cash.

Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)

TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) Card :These permits can be obtained in Kathmandu or Pokhara and must be carried at all times during the trek.

Accommodation

The trek offers teahouse accommodations, which are simple but comfortable lodges run by local families. Rooms are usually twin-sharing, with basic bedding and shared bathrooms. Some teahouses offer hot showers and Wi-Fi, but these come at an additional cost.
