Shey Phoksundo Lake Trek Itinerary Detail
Day 1: Kathmandu to Nepalgunj
Take a flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, a lowland city near the Indian border. In the evening, meet with the team members and you’ll be briefed about the upcoming journey from our guides. Rest and prepare for the next day’s mountain flight.
Day 2: Nepalgunj to Juphal (Flight) – Trek to Dunai
Take an early morning flight to Juphal (2,475m), the starting point of the trek. Start your trek through terraced fields and riverside trails, experiencing the hills and greeneries of the far western side of Nepal. Reach Dunai, the headquarters of Dolpo region and spend the night there.
Day 3: Dunai to Chhepka
Follow the Suli Gad River, walking through pine and rhododendron forests. Witnessing glorious landscapes along the way, you’ll slow enter the Shey Phoskdundo National Park just before entering Chhepka. Reach Chhepka and settle in for the night.
Day 4: Chhepka to Jharana Hotel
Continue your trail through dense forest which slowly transitions to less and less greeneries. Today, first glimpse of Mountains can be seen in the far northern side. Pass through the famous Phoksundo Waterfall which is 167m tall, that is Nepal’s highest.
Day 5: Jharana Hotel to Ringmo Village / Shey Phoksundo Lake
The day begins with a hearty breakfast as you get greeted with a steep climb. You’ll begin your descend towards Ringmo Village that is known as the gateway to Shey Phoksundo Lake. You’ll see the famous lake in the distant which is turquoise in color. Reach Ringmo village and rest for the day.
Day 6: Explore Shey Phoksundo Lake
You’ll spend the day exploring small villages, famous monasteries and connecting with the local. you’ll visit lakes, hike to nearby viewpoints, and cliffs and make the most out of this day. Experiencing the serenity of this untouched paradise, you’ll reconnect your lost touch with Mother Nature.
Day 7: Ringmo to Jharana Hotel

Personal Equipments List For Trekking
Essential gear includes sturdy trekking boots, down jacket, thermal layers, sleeping bag (rated to -20°C), and trekking poles. Technical climbing gear is not required, but quality cold-weather clothing is essential. Don’t forget camera equipment to capture the aerial views during the helicopter return.
Porter weight limits are strictly enforced: 18kg per porter, shared between two trekkers (9kg per person). Extra luggage can be stored at your hotel in Kathmandu.
Focus on lightweight, multi-purpose clothing that can be layered. Rental equipment is available in Kathmandu for items like down jackets and sleeping bags.

Typical Day:- The day starts with breakfast at 7:00 AM, followed by 5-7 hours of trekking with a lunch break at a teahouse along the route. Trekkers usually reach their destination by late afternoon, allowing time for relaxation, exploration, and acclimatization. Evenings include dinner and a briefing for the next day’s journey.
Flight Delays:- Mountain weather can be unpredictable, affecting flights to Juphal and potential helicopter operations. Extra days are built into the itinerary to accommodate possible flight delays, and alternative transportation can be arranged if necessary.
Visa:- A Nepal visa is available on arrival at Kathmandu Airport. Fees are $30 for 15 days and $50 for 30 days. Bring passport photos and USD cash for a smooth application process.
Travel Insurance:- All trekkers must have mandatory travel insurance covering up to 6,000m altitude, including emergency helicopter evacuation. We can recommend suitable policies if needed.
Currency Exchange:- Major currencies can be exchanged in Kathmandu, but ATMs are extremely limited in Dolpa. It is advisable to carry sufficient Nepali rupees for the trek, as most teahouses accept only cash.
Extra Expenses:-Expect to budget $25-30 per day for additional expenses, including meals not covered in the package, snacks, hot showers, charging electronic devices, and WiFi access at teahouses.
